R & D Farms is centrally located in the Southern Ontario Niagara Region (see our map). Thirty minutes from the Peace Bridge in Buffalo, New York, it has easy access to several major highways. This 30 acre farm includes a small indoor arena, a 5 stall barn and good pasture. R & D Farms is close to the excellent trails of the Short Hills Provincial Park. In the park, you can ride a 2.5 hour loop, over varied terrain, without ever crossing your tracks. The Paso Fino horse, with its comfortable ground covering gait, is perfectly suited to ride on these trails.
R & D Farms is owned and operated by Richard Roy and Dianna Lee Roy. Richard has raised, owned and ridden various breeds of horses for over 45 years. He fell in love with the Paso Fino breed while riding in the Dominican Republic and shortly thereafter, in 1993, he bought his first Paso Fino. Since October 2000 he has been an active member of the Pasos for Pleasure Trail Ride Group and recently achieved the 2500 hour plateau. In 2004 he began showing in the USA and Canada and his horses have always placed at the National level since 2005. Currently, Richard owns 3 magnificent Paso Finos; one stallion, Farahon De Capitan and two geldings, Defensor and Saturno. These horses were purchased from Quinta Chiappetta, owned by Kay and Chips Chiappetta of Kentucky and were trained by Ricky Mendoza.
In addition to showing, Richard loves nothing better than to saddle up his Pasos and go trail riding with a friend.
